Karen S. Rieger is recognized by her clients and peers throughout Oklahoma as an authority on healthcare legal issues.  She joined Crowe & Dunlevy in 1981, and today, as a shareholder and director, serves as the Chair of the Firm’s Healthcare Practice Group.  Her practice includes representation of healthcare institutions and practitioners throughout Oklahoma and surrounding states on a broad range of health law issues, including the Anti-Kickback and Stark laws, HIPAA privacy and security requirements, laws affecting tax-exempt and governmental healthcare providers, Medicare reimbursement rules, medical staff issues and others. She has been involved structuring numerous acquisitions, joint ventures and contracts involving healthcare providers.
 
            Ms. Rieger received her  B.A. in Journalism (with distinction) and Juris Doctorate (with honors) from the University of Oklahoma, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif. She served as an Adjunct Professor of Healthcare Law at the University of Oklahoma College of Law for 8 years, and is a frequent lecturer on health law issues, both locally and nationally.  She also has authored numerous articles on health law topics.  She is a past president and current director of the Oklahoma Health Lawyers Association and a member and former Chairperson of the Health Law Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association.  She is also a member of the ABA Health Law Section and the American Health Lawyers Association, with committee involvement on the following committees: Long-Term Care (past vice chair), Fraud and Abuse, Credentialing and Peer Review, Hospitals and Health Systems and Regulation and Accreditation. 
 
            Ms. Rieger has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Health Care Law since 1991.  She also is listed in Oklahoma Super Lawyers under health law and top 25 female lawyers in Oklahoma.  She received a Leadership in Law Award and was recognized as a finalist for the Woman of the Year Award by the Journal Record business newspaper.
 
            Ms. Rieger serves on a number of civic and charitable boards, including the Oklahoma Cerebral Palsy Commission, which operates the J.D. McCarty Center for children with developmental disabilities.
