Crowe & Dunlevy is pleased to announce that Oklahoma City attorney, Jerome A. Holmes, has been appointed by the President of the American Bar Association to serve a 3-year term on the American Bar Association’s Commission on Homelessness & Poverty.

“I am honored and pleased to have the opportunity to serve on this important Commission,” said Mr. Holmes. “I am deeply concerned about the problems of the working poor and homeless, and my appointment gives me a wonderful chance to take some concrete actions to improve their situation.” Mr. Holmes’ appointment continues the tradition of Crowe & Dunlevy's commitment to the homeless, following the recent outstanding service by William H. Hoch as Chair of the Commission.

The American Bar Association formed the Commission in 1991, giving it responsibility for addressing the legal problems of the homeless and poor. The Commission educates lawyers about those problems and the ways legal training can be used to help remedy them and it develops and promotes public policies that benefit the homeless and poor. “The homeless and poor encounter many obstacles in striving to reach a point of self-sufficiency; a good number of them are legal,” said Mr. Holmes. “The Commission performs a vital function in helping to remove the barriers that keep people from having a shot at the American Dream, and I am proud to have an opportunity to be involved in such important work.”

Mr. Holmes recently entered private practice after a distinguished 11-year career as a federal prosecutor in the Oklahoma City U.S. Attorney’s Office. He is Chair-Elect of the Board of Directors of City Rescue Mission, the largest provider of services to the homeless in Oklahoma. Mr. Holmes has been nominated to be Vice President of the Oklahoma Bar Association and currently serves on its Board of Governors. He is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma City and Leadership Oklahoma.

With more than 400,000 members, the American Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law in a democratic society.
