Crowe & Dunlevy is pleased to announce that Oklahoma City attorney, William H. Hoch, has been appointed by the President of the American Bar Association to serve on the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Governmental Affairs. Mr. Hoch will serve a three-year term.
"I am humbled by the opportunity to serve the legal profession in this capacity. Members of this Committee are charged with setting the legislative and governmental priorities for the legal profession. My service will allow me to meld my prior experience in Washington, D.C. with my day-to-day legal practice," said Mr. Hoch.
The Committee was created by the American Bar Association's Board of Governors to assist the ABA's Governmental Affairs Office in implementing the Association's legislative program. "The ABA is the national representative of the legal profession. As lawyers, we are charged with the duty of improving the American system of justice, promoting access to this system and insuring that judicial independence is preserved. Making sure that the legislative and executive branches are fully informed about our justice system, judicial independence and related issues is a vital and important duty, and I look forward to this challenge," stated Mr. Hoch.
The Committee will also assist with coordinating the annual "ABA Day in Washington," an event held each spring that provides bar association leaders from around the country with the opportunity to share ideas about the legal profession's legislative agenda and meet with members of Congress and their staff on relevant issues.
Mr. Hoch served as Legislative Director to former Congressman Glenn English, and also was a law clerk for both the Honorable Richard L. Bohanan, a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Oklahoma, and the Honorable Marion Opala, an Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice. Mr. Hoch has chaired the ABA Commission on Homelessness & Poverty for the past four years.
With more than 400,000 members, the American Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law in a democratic society.
