Initiative Petition
Crowe & Dunlevy has extensive experience as counsel in initiative petition matters. As counsel for proponents, our attorneys prepare petitions and ballot titles, provide advice, and defend challenges. As counsel for protestants, our attorneys challenge petitions and ballot titles. The Firm’s Initiative Petition attorneys have dealt with numerous complicated legal issues, including Federal and State constitutional, substantive, and procedural matters. Many of the principles governing initiative petitions have been developed in cases in which Crowe & Dunlevy was counsel, often based on innovative arguments presented by the Firm’s Initiative Petition attorneys.
Tort Reform
Crowe & Dunlevy recently represented Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse in connection with the preparation of two initiative petitions on tort reform. The petitions were not filed because the Oklahoma Legislature enacted tort reform legislation. The Firm successfully defended the proponents of the petitions in collateral litigation and established Oklahoma precedent which insulated initiative petition drives from remaining litigation.
Crowe & Dunlevy has been involved in a number of statewide, county and municipal initiative petition drives. A representative list follows:
