Crowe & Dunlevy was recently announced as a 2010 Communitas Award winner in the leadership in community service category. Communitas Awards, an outgrowth of the Association of Business and Communication Professionals pro bono program, are aimed to recognize businesses, organizations and individuals who exhibit excellence in volunteerism, philanthropy and ethical or sustainable business practices.
Judges found Crowe & Dunlevy’s entry clearly demonstrated the spirit of communitas, a Latin word meaning people coming together for the good of a community in the areas of leadership, volunteerism and philanthropy. In 2009, every member of the firm’s leadership team served in at least one board position, and 90 percent of the firm’s attorneys currently serve on boards or are active in some type of leadership or volunteer activity.
The firm actively donates time and services to Oklahoma Lawyers for Children, a program developed in part by Crowe & Dunlevy attorney Kent Meyers. Since 1997, this program has grown to include nearly 900 volunteers. The firm also donates time and resources to Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, as well as multiple community organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boy Scouts of America.
As the founding member of the American Bar Association’s Legal Opportunity Scholarship, Crowe & Dunlevy provides scholarships for deserving students pursuing a legal career. The firm also assists minority students at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University through its Minority Scholarship Program. Crowe & Dunlevy makes contributions to numerous schools, health facilities, arts organizations and social programs throughout the metropolitan area.
