COMMERCIAL LITIGATION / BANKRUPTCY LEGAL SECRETARY

SUMMARY: Working under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources &
Administrative Services provides secretarial support for assigned Firm attorneys and paralegals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by supervising attorneys and paralegals. Must have good attendance, be punctual and reliable.

Preparing legal documents such as pleadings, summonses, complaints, motions, discovery, entries of appearance, subpoenas, etc. and correspondence of a legal nature in the practice of commercial litigation and bankruptcy. Ability to e-file in state and federal courts, preparing hearing notebooks, strong Microsoft skills, and organization skills are key.

Performs various other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, giving information to callers, composing and typing routine correspondence, reading and routing incoming mail, maintaining files and other records, scanning and photocopying materials, maintaining client information and keeping current with attorney’s existing work for clients, time entry and billing, and various other tasks as needed by the supervising attorneys in the practice of law.

Various other special projects and tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience: Prefer prior law firm experience in commercial litigation and bankruptcy. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients, attorneys and other employees of the Firm.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
