Oklahoma Employers May Intercede on Behalf of Employees in Need of Protection

It is an unfortunate truth that employers often face situations where someone outside of the workplace is directly harassing or has otherwise made threats of violence against an employee(s), or the employer’s management or owners. Whether it be a disgruntled former employee, the domestic partner or spouse of an employee, an angry customer or client or even a stranger; harassment and threats should be taken seriously. The Oklahoma Legislature recently provided Oklahoma employers and their employees with legislative support for these situations. The Oklahoma Protection from Workplace Harassment and Violence Act aims to protect employers and their employees by providing an avenue in district court in which the employer can file a petition seeking an injunction prohibiting workplace harassment.
