The Wait is Over! Department of Labor Announces Final Rule Changing Salary Thresholds for Exempt Employees

At last, the Department of Labor (DOL) released final regulations making changes to Part 541 governing overtime exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The minimum salary for exempt employees will now be $913 per week or $47,476 per year. This puts to rest much speculation over the final salary rule. While this is a 100% raise in the current minimum salary, it is still less than what some thought might be close to a mandated salary of $1,000 per week. Additionally, employers will be allowed to include non-discretionary bonuses and commissions to account for up to 10% of the minimum salary. More
