Andy Szuwalski’s primary focus is on patent preparation and prosecution, patent infringement and validity analysis, and strategic intellectual property counseling. After more than 35 years of practice, he partners primarily with sophisticated corporate clients that value experienced guidance, responsive communication and thoughtful legal strategy. Clients appreciate his ability to explain complex issues clearly while working alongside engineers, inventors and business leaders throughout the life of a project.
Drawing on broad technical experience
Trained as an electrical engineer, Andy has built experience across an unusually broad range of technologies, including electronics, semiconductor processing, integrated circuits, wired and wireless communications, automation, electromechanical systems and oil and gas drilling technology. Rather than limiting himself to a single technical niche, he continually expands his understanding of emerging technologies, enabling him to have meaningful technical conversations with inventors and develop patent strategies grounded in both engineering principles and real-world innovation.

Beyond securing patent protection, Andy helps clients evaluate competitors’ IP rights, assess infringement and validity issues, and identify opportunities to challenge patents through reexamination and post-grant proceedings when appropriate.
