How do I help our intellectual property legal teams and clients?

Bringing a meticulous, proactive approach to managing complex intellectual property matters, I enjoy serving as a trusted resource for both attorneys and clients. With approximately 15 years of experience in the legal profession, I coordinate the many moving pieces involved in trademark and patent prosecution, portfolio management and filings across the country and around the world. I work hard to anticipate deadlines, identify potential issues, and help drive matters forward, all of which, I’m told, make me an essential part of the legal team and a steady point of contact for clients.

Managing complex intellectual property portfolios

Amy manages comprehensive trademark and patent portfolios that span state, federal and international jurisdictions. Her work includes U.S. trademark prosecution before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, state-level filings, foreign patent applications and coordination with global associates. She prepares and finalizes filing documents, communicates with foreign counsel and helps clients navigate the options, fees and instructions involved with international filings.

Supporting lawyers to help them zero-in on the big-picture concerns

Much of Amy’s role centers on ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks. She reviews daily correspondence from the USPTO, foreign associates and other sources, identifies action items and deadlines, and prioritizes matters based on urgency and complexity. Her detailed approach to docket management allows attorneys to focus on substantive legal issues while Amy keeps the procedural and administrative aspects of matters on track.

Staying ahead of potential problems, hitting target dates

Amy brings a proactive mindset to client service, regularly identifying red flags, gaps and other issues before they develop into more costly problems. She also reviews trademark watch notices and helps identify situations in which a client may need to consider opposing another party’s potentially confusingly similar mark. By keeping clients informed about upcoming deadlines and the information needed to meet them, she helps clients stay ahead rather than simply react when a deadline arrives. Amy’s responsiveness, organization and attention to detail have earned praise from both attorneys and clients and have made her a dependable presence on matters involving substantial IP portfolios.

Guiding trademark and patent matters from filing to completion

Amy particularly enjoys the focus that comes with bringing a filing from preparation through completion. Whether assembling and reviewing documents, coordinating revisions, or finalizing a submission, she takes satisfaction in closing the loop on a matter. She also enjoys seeing the real-world impact of the work, whether encountering a trademark she helped secure for a recognizable business or following the development of an invention through the patent process.

Mentoring the next generation of paralegals

Amy also serves as a mentor and resource for junior paralegals, drawing on her own experience to help others learn IP procedures and portfolio management. She has trained multiple paralegals and takes a thoughtful approach to passing along the lessons she gained from colleagues who once guided her. Her willingness to share knowledge strengthens the team and helps preserve the institutional knowledge that allows the group to serve clients effectively.

Serving as the team’s “quarterback”

Within the Intellectual Property Practice Group, Amy has earned a reputation as the person who can keep numerous matters, deadlines and priorities moving in the right direction. Her supervisor has described her as the group’s “quarterback”—a fitting characterization for someone who understands the broader picture, knows which matters require immediate attention, and works with attorneys, clients and outside counsel to help keep the entire operation on track. Her combination of experience, judgment, collegiality and attention to detail makes her a valued member of the firm’s IP team.
