How do I serve clients as their outside general counsel?

I understand what it means to build and grow a business because I’ve lived it. Having helped manage my family’s banking, real estate development and property management companies, I know firsthand the pressures business owners face every day—from making payroll and evaluating professional advisors to planning for growth and navigating uncertainty. My role is not simply to complete transactions but to serve as a trusted counselor who helps clients make informed decisions, solve problems and position their businesses for long-term success.

Serving as a valuable advisor on an array of legal and business matters

Eric S. Fisher advises entrepreneurs, family businesses, family offices and privately held companies on a wide spectrum of issues that shape every stage of the business lifecycle. His national practice encompasses corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, business formation, governance, financing, regulatory compliance and strategic planning across a diverse range of industries.

Many clients rely on Eric as their outside general counsel—or, as he describes it, their “legal concierge.” He handles many matters personally while drawing on an extensive network of legal and business professionals to connect clients with the right resources whenever specialized experience is needed. Whether those professionals are within Crowe or beyond the firm, Eric’s priority remains the same: helping clients obtain the highest level of service as efficiently as possible.

Bringing firsthand business experience to his practice

Eric’s practical business perspective distinguishes his legal counsel. Having participated in the management of his family’s businesses for decades, he appreciates that every legal decision carries financial and operational consequences. That experience allows him to see issues through the eyes of business owners, balancing legal considerations with the realities of managing employees, preserving capital and pursuing growth opportunities.

Building, collaborating and managing talented teams to achieve results

Clients value Eric’s straightforward approach. He believes effective counselors recognize not only what they know, but also when additional perspectives create better outcomes. By assembling the right team for each engagement and coordinating the work efficiently, Eric helps clients move forward with confidence while avoiding unnecessary complexity.

Guiding clients across evolving industries

Eric represents clients nationwide in healthcare, technology, real estate, financial services and other industries, advising businesses from emerging companies to sophisticated family enterprises. He also chairs the firm’s Cannabis Industry Practice Group, where he counsels licensed operators, ancillary businesses and financial institutions as the industry continues to mature through consolidation, expansion and increasingly complex transactions.

His technology practice has grown alongside rapid advances in artificial intelligence, including advising software engineering companies developing AI-driven products and services. Across every industry, Eric enjoys helping innovative businesses adapt to changing markets while building strong legal foundations for future growth.

Cultivating and maintaining long-term client relationships

Many of Eric’s client relationships span decades, reflecting the trust he has earned as both a lawyer and business advisor. Rather than focusing solely on individual transactions, he strives to become a partner who’s in it for the long haul and understands each client’s goals, anticipates emerging challenges, and provides practical guidance as their businesses evolve.

Before beginning his legal career, Eric worked in client management for a Chicago advertising agency, helping international consumer products companies develop, position and market new products. That early experience, combined with decades of legal practice and hands-on business leadership, continues to inform the pragmatic, business-oriented counsel he provides today.
