How do I help healthcare organizations respond to changing laws, regulations and government requirements?

Few healthcare industry lawyers have started, scaled and sold the kind of companies they now represent. Having worked as a healthcare lawyer, association executive, registered lobbyist and entrepreneur, I understand how legislative and regulatory decisions shape business operations, product development and patient care. I enjoy helping clients see what’s coming next so they have options before change becomes disruption.

Guiding healthcare organizations through regulatory change

Laura advises health plans, hospitals, providers and other healthcare organizations on the laws, regulations and policy developments that affect their operations. She helps clients evaluate proposed legislation, agency rules and enforcement priorities, assess regulatory risks and respond to administrative proceedings and agency negotiations. Her more than 20 years as Executive Director of the Oklahoma Association of Health Plans gives her firsthand knowledge of how healthcare policy is developed, interpreted and implemented.

Representing clients at the intersection of law, government and healthcare policy

When clients encounter regulatory obstacles, Laura helps them determine whether the solution lies in legal analysis, administrative advocacy or legislative action. As both a lawyer and a registered Oklahoma lobbyist (since 2001), she has drafted legislation and administrative rules and represented clients before state agencies and at the Capitol. That experience allows her to advise clients not only on what the law requires today but also on how policy changes may affect them tomorrow.

Bringing an operator’s perspective to healthcare legal decisions

Laura’s perspective extends beyond legal practice. She founded and scaled a healthcare technology company from an initial idea to a $40 million valuation before successfully exiting the business. Having navigated issues involving intellectual property, HIPAA, privacy, multistate expansion, organizational structure and healthcare regulation herself, she understands how legal decisions affect growth, operations and long-term business planning.

Helping organizations prepare for legislative and regulatory change

Laura works proactively with healthcare organizations, entrepreneurs and boards to identify legislative and regulatory developments while they can still be addressed, rather than after they become problems. She monitors proposed legislation, agency rulemaking and enforcement trends, and helps clients evaluate enterprise risks, organizational structures and strategic options for compliance. For organizations operating in a rapidly changing regulatory environment, that early perspective can be as valuable as the legal advice that follows.
