How do curiosity, preparation, and an understanding of business help me become a better lawyer?
I was interested in the business behind the law before I went to law school. Studying energy finance taught me to look beyond the immediate legal question and understand the business and economic forces surrounding it. I bring that curiosity to every matter I work on.
Understanding the business behind the legal issue
Morgan came to law school with a foundation in business and energy, earning his undergraduate degree in energy finance. That background sparked an early interest in the intersection of law, business and the energy industry and shaped the way he will approach legal problems: first understand what is happening, why it matters and what is at stake.
Getting into the facts—and into the courtroom
Even before beginning at Crowe Dunlevy, Morgan sought opportunities to experience how legal disputes actually unfold. As a law clerk, he researched oil and gas litigation, property tax disputes and bankruptcy matters; drafted motions, discovery and pleadings; and observed and summarized depositions in preparation for trials and hearings.
People remember when you pay attention to them
Morgan understands that strong relationships begin with listening. Long before law school, working in the hospitality industry taught him something that translates surprisingly well to practicing law: people remember when you pay attention to them. His ability to build rapport and make people feel welcome now complements the analytical and advocacy skills he brings to his legal career.
