How do I help companies navigate oil and gas litigation and environmental compliance?

I’ve built a rewarding practice blending oil and gas litigation and general environmental compliance counsel. The litigation work takes me back to my own days working in the field for a company drilling natural gas wells across several states. On the environmental side, it is rewarding to see clients often quickly and directly benefiting after implementing our specific recommendations.

Representing oil and gas companies in a wide range of industry disputes

Hank guides primarily upstream oil and gas companies through a wide range of litigation matters arising from blowout injuries, lease cancellations, JOA/JIB disputes, subsurface trespass and nuisance (“frac hit”) claims, service company patent infringement, and other industry disputes. Observing firsthand the types of issues that can arise during drilling and completion operations provided him with practical, real-world context that continues to inform his practice today.

Providing national- to local-scale environmental compliance counsel

Midstream energy clients and other companies across industries turn to Hank for assistance with environmental and regulatory compliance involving the EPA, DEQ and OWRB, including RCRA compliance and PFAS contamination issues. He also advises clients on import tariff matters involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Commerce, compliance with the Build America, Buy America Act and emerging extended producer responsibility regulations aimed at single-use plastic packaging. Hank helps clients understand changing regulatory requirements and guides them through their interactions with regulators when questions or enforcement issues arise.

Bringing oilfield education and firsthand experience to energy litigation and compliance

After studying petroleum engineering at the University of Oklahoma, Hank worked for a company drilling natural gas wells in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. Those days—working night tour, living in man camps and spending time on drilling rigs gave him a firsthand understanding of the operational realities behind the disputes he now helps clients resolve. Today, that experience allows him to communicate effectively with engineers and field personnel while bringing practical insight to both energy litigation and environmental compliance matters.
