How Do I Help Clients Find Business Solutions to Complex Legal Problems?
I evaluate my clients’ positions objectively, including identifying and addressing weaknesses that could lead to a negative outcome. That practical perspective allows me to resolve a dispute in a way that makes sense for the client’s business, whether through litigation, negotiation or a strategic alternative approach.
Representing oil and gas companies in complex business disputes
Lewis LeNaire represents oil and gas companies across the upstream and midstream sectors. His experience encompasses a broad range of issues for industry participants, including contract disputes, property and title disputes, business torts, seismicity claims, royalty and post-production cost disputes, joint operating agreement and COPAS disputes, lease cancellation and quiet title actions, surface damage and landowner disputes, and disputes over pipeline condemnation and easement rights.
Representing clients in general litigation matters
Outside of his energy practice, Lewis also serves firm clients in general litigation matters, including represention of municipal and state governmental entities in disputes concerning city council elections, water rights, and administrative due process; handling title insurance and tenant disputes for commercial property owners; and represention of business owners in partnership disputes.
A valuable resource for regulatory proceedings
Lewis also guides clients through regulatory proceedings before state agencies, including the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and Oklahoma Water Resources Board. He has assisted clients in matters involving regulatory oversight of mineral exploration and production, oilfield pollution, and stream and groundwater rights.
While a litigator, also appreciating other options
Lewis approaches each dispute with the goal of reaching a beneficial resolution for the client rather than treating every conflict as a war to be won in the courtroom. While he adopts an aggressive posture when a matter requires it, his approach is naturally more solution-oriented: understanding the client’s business objectives, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the parties’ positions, and looking for creative ways to resolve the underlying problem. That often leads to litigation, but it may also lead to a negotiated resolution between the parties, which can take less time and be even more cost effective.
