How do I help clients secure the best possible results in their disputes?
I assist clients in navigating complex disputes by first understanding how their businesses actually work, what matters most to them, and what they ultimately want to accomplish. I listen carefully, tackle difficult legal issues with persistence and creativity, and give clients candid advice about both the risks they face and the practical realities of their businesses. Whether I’m developing a strategy for complicated litigation, solving an urgent legal problem, or counseling a client on making a difficult decision, I work to find a path that protects the client without unnecessarily hamstringing the business.
Drawing on instinct and intellect to get to the heart of a complicated story
A former journalist, Paige Masters brings a writer’s discipline and a reporter’s curiosity to complex commercial litigation. She represents national companies in Oklahoma, with a current emphasis on insurance bad faith disputes, as well as matters involving managed care companies, government contractors and other businesses. Her experience spans contract disputes, fraud, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secrets, ERISA, the Uniform Commercial Code and other business-critical conflicts, along with appellate matters, initiative-petition challenges and sophisticated electronic discovery. Paige particularly enjoys matters with difficult legal questions that require extensive research and creative thinking to develop a sound defense.
Untangling dense disputes with speed and determination
When a matter becomes unusually difficult, Paige brings the tenacity and analytical focus needed to impose some order on the chaos. She frequently serves as a go-to resource for complex briefing, novel legal questions, and urgent litigation needs, including matters outside her primary areas of concentration. Her work also includes helping national insurance clients move cases into federal court through removal, an increasingly important strategic tool in Oklahoma litigation. She approaches discovery with the same thoroughness, managing electronic discovery platforms and large volumes of information while keeping efficiency and client cost in mind.
Balancing legal risk with the realities of running a business
Paige doesn’t view legal advice as an exercise in eliminating every conceivable risk. She works to understand what a client makes or sells, how the company operates, who its customers and employees are, and what the business needs to accomplish before recommending a course of action. That perspective allows her to distinguish between risks that require immediate attention and those that can be managed without imposing unnecessary restrictions on the client’s operations. She’s equally comfortable delivering difficult news, preferring to identify problems early, prepare clients for the worst, and then work toward an outcome that exceeds those expectations.
Strengthening matters through collaboration and thoughtful team building
Paige understands that effective litigation teams draw on more than legal acumen alone. She brings paralegals into matters at the outset, matching their particular skills to the demands of a case and relying on their command of documents, corporate records and other details to make the work more efficient and cost-effective. Her knowledge of the firm’s associates and their individual strengths also helps her assemble teams suited to particular clients and disputes. As Vice President of Paralegal Development, she extends that collaborative approach beyond her own matters, helping develop the people whose work forms an essential part of successful client service.
Leading with accountability and advancing a culture of professional responsibility
Paige serves on Crowe Dunlevy’s Executive Committee and chairs the firm’s Ethics Committee, responsibilities that reflect her commitment to sound judgment and professional integrity. Her ethics work extends beyond conventional conflicts checks to examining whether accepting a representation or taking a particular position could create problems for an existing client elsewhere in the firm’s practice. She also assists with professional negligence and legal malpractice matters, bringing an understanding of litigation, professional responsibility and the practical consequences of difficult decisions. As a leader within the firm, Paige is particularly committed to supporting and advocating for junior women attorneys, viewing her own leadership as an opportunity to lead by example and help the next generation build successful careers.
