How do I help clients with their legal and business matters?

I approach the practice of law much like I approached business: first understand what the client wants to accomplish, then determine how to get there. Having spent much of my career working inside banks, businesses and government, I think like a businessman as well as a lawyer, weighing legal considerations alongside practical realities, costs and the desired outcome. I strive to be a trusted, accessible partner for clients, particularly financial institutions and other businesses that need experienced counsel who understands their world.

Advising financial institutions from the inside out

Scott Meacham focuses his practice primarily on banking and financial services, representing financial institutions across a broad range of operational, regulatory and transactional matters. He serves as an outside legal resource for banks that may not have the size or need for full-time in-house counsel, advising on issues ranging from loan structures and collateral to account questions, regulatory concerns, acquisitions and strategic decisions. His experience directly running a bank’s lending function—including actually making loans—gives him a practical understanding of the considerations that drive financial institutions’ decisions.

Drawing on a career built around business

Scott brings a breadth and depth of business experience to his legal practice. Before joining Crowe Dunlevy, he led a community bank as CEO, general counsel and lending supervisor; served as Oklahoma’s State Treasurer and the governor’s chief financial and budget adviser; and ran a venture fund for more than a decade. Those roles taught him to evaluate problems from multiple perspectives and to consider not only whether a course of action is legally sound, but whether it makes business sense for the client.

Discovering ways to move deals forward

Scott has long been regarded as a deal maker, a role that requires identifying obstacles without losing sight of the objective. He works to bridge gaps, find workable alternatives, and develop creative solutions when the straightforward path is blocked. His practice includes loan documents and other financings, equity and venture financing, corporate governance and private wealth matters, as well as real estate and banking-related litigation.

Reading the situation and adapting quickly

Scott’s years in government and business taught him to absorb unfamiliar information quickly and adjust when circumstances change. He describes the experience as playing chess on a board that’s constantly being moved, a skill that remains valuable when negotiating transactions, counseling business leaders, or representing clients in litigation. He pays close attention to the people, dynamics and practical considerations surrounding a matter, allowing him to respond quickly as the situation unfolds.

Staying accessible to clients

Scott builds long-term relationships in which clients often view him as an extension of their team. He communicates directly and efficiently while adjusting to the way each client prefers to work, whether that means a phone call, video meeting or text. He aims to provide counsel that’s both responsive and economical, making sure clients receive meaningful value from the time and resources they invest in legal services.
