Dallas Implements Paid Sick Leave Ordinance

Employers with more than five employees in the city of Dallas need to be ready to implement the paid sick leave rules that will go into effect on August 1, 2019, if not postponed by the city or enjoined by a court. The ordinance, found at Chapter 20 of the Dallas City Code, requires that employees earn one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked for the employer in the city of Dallas. Paid sick time will begin accruing for employees of an employer with more than five employees on August 1, 2019.  Employers with five or fewer employees will be subject to the rules starting in August 2021.
