Oklahoma Supreme Court Hears Challenges to Independent Redistricting Petition

On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, the Oklahoma Supreme Court heard legal challenges to an initiative petition seeking the creation of a nonpartisan redistricting process independent of the state Legislature. Representing advocates of the petition, Initiative Petitions Co-chair Melanie Wilson Rughani dismissed arguments that the petition violates constitutional protections and the state’s single-subject rule, adding that the petition is clearly dealing with redistricting.
