Ransomware Attacks in Health Care System Should be a National Emergency

On February 21, 2024, Change Healthcare, a medical payment processing company, fell victim to a ransomware attack that made a catastrophic impact on hospitals and pharmacies and their ability to process payments and insurance claims. In an op-ed for the Dallas Morning News, Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Practice Group Chair Anthony Hendricks discusses why the public should be concerned regarding the increasing amount of cyber attacks directed at the healthcare industry, and highlights the need for all ransomware attacks to be declared as public health emergencies.
