Tulsa Public Library to Host Public Lunch & Learn on “Killers of the Flower Moon”

TULSA, Okla. – Crowe & Dunlevy Indian Law & Gaming attorney Mike McBride will offer a complimentary public lecture reviewing David Grann’s bestseller, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, Monday, Oct. 23 at the Tulsa Public Library’s Aaronson Auditorium.

In the 1920s, oil discoveries made citizens of the Osage Nation the richest people per capita in the world. One by one, the Osage began to be killed off. David Grann utilizes years of research and startling new evidence to revisit the shocking series of crimes in which dozens of people were murdered in cold blood, and serves up a searing indictment of the callousness and prejudice toward American Indians that allowed the murderers to operate with impunity for so long.

Acclaimed film director Martin Scorsese and actor Leonardo DiCaprio are developing a film based on this book, and Imperative Entertainment reportedly acquired the movie rights with a $5 million bid. It is anticipated they may shoot the film in Oklahoma next spring.

McBride, a third-generation Oklahoman, grew up in and around Fairfax, where many of the murders within the Osage Nation occurred. He has served as General Counsel to the Osage Nation and is currently Attorney General for the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.

As part of the library’s “Books Sandwiched In” lecture series, the event is free and attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches with them to the lecture.
